Explore Porto and the Douro Valley Region

Quinta Do Loureiro Holiday Home Douro Porto Northern PortugalI hope that this page will give you a little of the flavour of the area, as well as many useful links for tourist and travel information. You will be spoilt for choice in this beautiful region. From a stay in Porto with its cosmopolitan atmosphere, museums and art galleries, pavement cafes and sophisticated restaurants to the unique charm of the smaller river and mountain towns, wherever you go you are assured of a very warm welcome. The house is perfect for exploring Porto, Regua, Amarante, Braga, Pinhao, Costa Verde, Minho and Tras-os-Montes.

Taste the port at a Porto Port House, drink some ice cold Sagres beer at a local bar, or simply savour the fresh pressed orange juice from the trees just outside the farmhouse. One of the local specialities you must try is a Francesinha, an enormous meat sandwich, topped with egg and cheese and smothered in a spicy beer sauce, truly delicious!

The boat cruises from Régua to Pinhão and back (with optional lunch on board) are highly recommended to see the Douro Valley and I can book these for you. From Régua I can recommend bus trips to visit wonderful views of the area and local Port wine producers to taste the famous Port wine produced at Douro Valley. The house is served by train, with a main station close the house. I recommend a train trip to Régua or Pinhão or further to admire all of the Douro Valley. All the information is available at the house, or just ask. You will also find links on the right hand side of the page to local walking maps, the historic train timetable and information, details of jeep tours, and the relaxation and treatments that are available at the Termas Caldos de Aregos Spa. Any of these excursions will make your stay in the Douro Valley even more special.
